Course Description:

Confined spaces in the workplace present serious risks to workers, and the potential hazards associated with them can be life-threatening if not properly managed. This course provides detailed guidance on how to identify, classify, control, monitor, and ensure safe entry into confined spaces. It is designed to equip participants with the necessary skills and knowledge to safely manage confined space operations according to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards and UK health and safety legislation.

This course focuses on the roles and responsibilities of confined space entrants, attendants, and supervisors. We will cover all aspects of working in confined spaces, including the physical and atmospheric hazards that can occur, as well as the procedures that must be followed to prevent accidents and injuries. Each role in the confined space entry process has a critical part to play, and understanding these duties is essential for workplace safety.

The course is divided into three key roles: the entrant, the attendant, and the supervisor. We will explore the specific duties and best practices for each role and the importance of communication and coordination to ensure the safe operation of confined space tasks. From understanding the potential risks of asphyxiation and toxic gas exposure to knowing how to use safety equipment effectively, participants will gain the knowledge to reduce risks and comply with regulations.

The course also covers the essential elements of confined space rescue, detailing emergency procedures, the use of rescue equipment, and the role of each team member in a rescue operation. By the end of the course, learners will be able to confidently identify confined spaces, assess the hazards associated with them, and implement effective control and monitoring measures.
